Play Is A Powerful Thing

About Me
My name is Carrie Parker and I am a former teacher turned homeschool mom. I have degrees in Psychology and Early Childhood Education and Development. I have been involved in the field of education in one way or another since I was a child volunteering in my mom’s classroom. When I was old enough to volunteer officially at the local elementary school, I did. When I was old enough for them to hire me, they did.
I attended a very competitive academic magnet for middle school and high school, and while I did well, I was burnt out and had no desire to go to college. It was an immature decision, but one that allowed me experiences that contributed to the development of my own educational philosophy.
During my lengthy college career I worked in various industries from infant daycare to insurance. Once I graduated, I taught at a small private school that fully embraced my play based learning philosophy. When I had my son we decided that the best thing for our family was if I became a full time mom and put my educational philosophy to work in raising him. Over the years I have gotten to see the benefit of this lifestyle and I am still a firm believer in the power of play.
